State of the Bible 2012

KJV Bible

I was reading an article today on the State of the Bible in America and I was slightly shocked and amazed at what I read.  I just thought I would share a little of it with you.  The good news according to the article is that the Bible is still the No. 1 best seller in America with an estimated six billion copies sold.  However, according to a new survey by The American Bible Society, it has lost some of its ability to affect people’s lives.  Here are two of the key points:

  • 82% of Americans revere the Bible as sacred literature.  This is down from a year ago when it was 86%.
  • When asked if the Bible contained “Everything a person needs to lead a meaningful life”  69 percent agreed either strongly or somewhat.  This is down from 75% the previous  year.

I have to believe that it is amazing that we live in a land where the Bible is the #1 selling book.  It is amazing that 82% of this country still hold it as sacred literature.   It is sad that there are still those that do not view it as sacred.  However, this should be a motivating factor for all believers.  The time is now for us to get our there and share the word of God.  To speak boldly of the Gospel.  The great commission says it plainly enough.

“And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.  And behold, I am with you always , to the end of the age” (Matthew 38: 18-20)

The word “Go” is there for a reason.  It is an imperative.  A command.  A call to act.  It does not say…when you have time or when you are comfortable.  Maybe on a Sunday afternoon.  Jesus was very direct.  “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…”  So what are we waiting for….lets go.  The fields are ripe and the workers are few….will you join me?

  1. Amen, Im with ya!

  2. Beautiful message!

  3. I pray that we will press in closely to our Lord, study His word daily and let the Holy Spirit write it on our hearts, so that by His power at work in us, we all become living words…then, as we go out in our daily lives, we will be “preaching” by living in Christ and loving Him and others!! This is how God’s word will run swiftly throughout the whole earth! People need desperately to see people fully alive in Christ and walking in the Spirit!!…you got me on something I am very passionate about 🙂
Blessings to you on your journey. I pray that you will be compelled by the love of Christ in all you do as you seek Him and serve Him with your life.
    In Him,
    Natalie
